A QUOTE FOR TODAY

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Sam's Speech
This is from The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers -

Sam: It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they are. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. They kept going because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding on to Sam?

Sam: That’s there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

Your chosen words I'm sure will be a good reminder for many of us...I'm a great believer in positive thoughts each day and strong faith too, but yes, there are times a little help is needed :) I have literally a few minutes ago finished watching the movie The Lord Of The Rings : The Two Towers and was moved by the above speach from one "friend" to another...then I read your blog :) More encouraging words :)

All GOOD stuff,

Till next time,

Ruth x

p.s. I have loved getting to know your readers. Hi to everyone :)

Hey Chudney,

I just finished listening to your mother's album, Diana Ross - Greatest Hits: The RCA Years, and it is such a great album. I haven't listened to this one in some time and decided to pop it into my CD player tonight. I am glad that I did. I was listening to "(Get the Message) It's Never Too Late", and I thought of your blog. This wonderful song helps us to see that "It's Never Too Late" to go for our dreams and helps us to remain positive and focused in life. "Don't Quit" from your blog instantly came to my mind. So many of your fantastic blog topics (and so many of your mother's amazing songs) have this fabulous message in them! I want to thank you and your family for always spreading these wonderful words of encouragement to us!!!! You guys are the best, and I mean it!!

Hope all is well with you and that you are having a FABULOUS SUMMER!!

Your friend,

Mark :)

P.S. Becca, great idea! I think I will share this poem with my students, too!
