FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND

The FOURTH OF JULY is a great day to hit the beach, grill some wieners and party till fireworks fill the sky. This year, FOURTH OF JULY fell on a Friday, which is FABULOUS! A full weekend of celebrations is way better than just one day!

The only problem is I failed to make my plans in advance. There was definitely some fun had, but for the most part my FABULOUS FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND was just mellow and less than FABULOUS.

A weekend that is supposed to start with a BANG seemed to start more with a fizzle. Friday morning, I woke to find out that my invite to a schnazzy Malibu BBQ had fallen through (I’m not sure who would not want this FABULOUS gal at their party, but whatever! Their loss!) I called my friend Kim to see if I could tag along with her to her day of volleyball in Hermosa, but she had already left, SO I decided I would go work out. I went to YAS (Yoga and Spinning), which I do every Friday. It seemed everyone and their mother thought they should tone up before their BBQs, so it was way too crowded (I got there too late to get a bike) and I was turned away (It’s one thing to be turned away from a party, but a very different thing all together to be turned away from the gym)! UGH!

Nothing was going my way and I thought for sure the day was gonna be a total bust till I walked by my cute neighbor Drew’s house. He had a couple of people over and so I joined the party. We rocked out to tunes while playing beer pong on a long board surfboard (only in Venice) and ate pizza. It was mellow, super fun and definitely my idea of FABULOUS.

As the sun began to set, I ran home to shower and change for the night’s festivities. I met up with Kim (who had returned from her wild day on the beach in Hermosa) at Catamaran in Marina Del Rey. Every year, the walk street throws a rockin' block party. The houses and condos overflowed with people. Bands played all day (Grammy away winner Trevor Hall even rocked the flag draped stage). It may not be a fancy Malibu party, but it was FABULOUS for sure.

My friend Sam was working at Cabo Cantina (right around the corner), so I slipped away from the party to grab some food. I ate queso and French fries and boneless chicken wings (YUM!) I had lost Kim at the block party and wasn’t feeling like watching the fireworks alone, so I decided to head home! I got in my pjs, snuggled in bed with the doggies (who were scared to death) and watched the fireworks through my window. Maybe it would have been more fun to watch the fireworks snuggled under the stars on a beach blanket with a hottie (and making my own fireworks), but the dogs weren’t bad company and so I can’t complain.

Saturday, I had a mellow day hanging at the Coffee Bean and lunching with friends. In the late afternoon, I headed to Playa Del Rey for a party at my friend Lacey’s house. I ate some carne asade and played flip cup (a beer game that I am not particularly good at)! I didn’t know many people there and wasn’t really feeling it, so I didn’t stay long. I went home and spent the evening hunkered down in front of my TV (there is NOTHING good on TV on the Saturday of FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND)!

Sunday, I hit the farmers market for some veggies, the Coffee Bean for a tea latte and then spent the day cleaning (my house is now seriously clean). I organized my closet, vacuumed and mopped (it was wild)! That evening though, my weekend turned around. I met up with a guy I have been hanging out with recently (I like him a whole bunch ☺)! We shared fajitas, sipped margaritas and I finally got my snuggles and kisses under the stars (maybe no fireworks in the sky, but the moon and stars will do)! Hehe… (This is me giggling like a schoolgirl)!

It may not have been the most wild FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND. It was totally mellow, but you know what… mellow ain’t always that bad! I still had fun that is FABULOUS!

For the 4th on next year, you should attend the Essence Music Festival. No doubt when your children's book is published you will want all the cover you can get, so why not go to a place that has an attendance in the thousands, fun, food and music, plus scores of black men (unless you're not into black men then you'd want to stay home). Think about it.

Chudney,

Your fourth of July sounded better than mine still, I had to work because I had the less cooler holiday off before that, so I was bummed, and then on Saturday, I threw my back out at work, and it is Thursday and I am still unable to work :(, but I will be okay, maybe with a little more preparation, next year will be better.

Cool Ms. C!!! I'm glad you had a chance to have a chill-out weekend!!! No "fireworks"...lol!!! I'm having my party tomorrow, so it was a clean-up day!!! Wish you could come...but I don't think my BYOB Bday Bash can compare to Malibu...lol:)

Hi Chudney,
Mellow is very nice, am i right?. My partner & I always make it a point to stay at home with our two dogs. We lost the oldest one, kibble, last year(old age). The other two, has major problems,so we go to our doggie's Vet, for some doggie Xanax and poof, we're one big happy family once more. It really help them through the ordeal. Check it out with your Veterinarian.

Also renewed my membership at the gym. You won't believe it, but i pay only $91.00 a year. Would be even less, if i pay for additional years in advance. There's no clubs restrictions and if for any Bally's locations nationwide. Now i must admit, i havn't been in about 3 years, that doesn't matter, the point is, at this cost, if i cancel and then decide to go back, I'll have to paid these huge monthly fees that it cost now days. I like to believe i'm going back...one day.LOL

Glad in the end you decided on being with your pets. I know they probably love you even more if possible. Take care, Gene S.

Hi Chudney,

I am sorry to hear that your Fourth of July weekend was less than fabulous! However, you always seem to make the most out of any situation and try to salvage it in some way. Great for you! That is a wonderful quality to have! I am glad that your weekend improved as it went on. I spent the weekend with family down the shore. The weather was so-so, but I am glad that the rain held off during the most important parts of the days; however, it really wasn't great beach weather. The weather hasn't been that great so far this summer on the East coast. My golden was also terrified during the fireworks. I felt so bad for him. It is amazing how scared dogs are during thunder storms and fireworks. Anyway, thanks for another great post, and I hope that you are enjoying your summer! -Mark

Hey,

A little note from me. In your early blogs you where talking about doing excersises right. I had this amazing workout, its actually boxing. Not that you should go in to the ring and get yourself beaten up, or you beat someonelse up in the ring. But the training is really cool. Lost a lot of weight and got a super body back instead. Thats even better than the ''master clansing'' and the other stuff..!

Well cheerio kiddo,

Rage

You know, I have to say .. I love reading your blog! It is so entertaining in a way and I feel I can relate to everything you write! I am in my early 20's and single, among close friends in established relationships .. and even thought there are those times when I wish I had someone to make fireworks on the beach with instead of being inside with my dogs, I enjoy my alone time so much and embrace each minute. In fact, I had a very similar 4th of July weekend...anticipating fabulousness, but ultimatly experiencing a poorly planned out, yet low-key fab weekend..ending with my casual boytoy ;) hehe

But yea .. I just had to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. you'r great and you keep me entertained. I feel like you are one of my friends as I read this hehe

Good luck with everything Chudney! Your great and beautifuly fabulous!
