“OH, THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!”

A story by Dr. Seuss

Congratulations!

Today is your day.

You're off to Great Places!

You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes

You can steer yourself

any direction you choose.

You're on your own. And you know what you know.

And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

You'll look up and down streets. Look 'em over with care.

About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."

With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,

you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

And you may not find any

you'll want to go down.

In that case, of course,

you'll head straight out of town.

It's opener there

in the wide open air.

Out there things can happen

and frequently do

to people as brainy

and footsy as you.

And when things start to happen,

don't worry. Don't stew.

Just go right along.

You'll start happening too.

OH!

THE PLACES YOU'LL GO!

You'll be on your way up!

You'll be seeing great sights!

You'll join the high fliers

who soar to high heights.

You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.

You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.

Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best.

Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.

Except when you don't

Because, sometimes, you won't.

I'm sorry to say so

but, sadly, it's true

and Hang-ups

can happen to you.

You can get all hung up

in a prickle-ly perch.

And your gang will fly on.

You'll be left in a Lurch.

You'll come down from the Lurch

with an unpleasant bump.

And the chances are, then,

that you'll be in a Slump.

And when you're in a Slump,

you're not in for much fun.

Un-slumping yourself

is not easily done.

You will come to a place where the streets are not marked.

Some windows are lighted. But mostly they're darked.

A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin!

Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?

How much can you lose? How much can you win?

And IF you go in, should you turn left or right...

or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite?

Or go around back and sneak in from behind?

Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find,

for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.

You can get so confused

that you'll start in to race

down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace

and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,

headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.

The Waiting Place...

...for people just waiting.

Waiting for a train to go

or a bus to come, or a plane to go

or the mail to come, or the rain to go

or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow

or waiting around for a Yes or a No

or waiting for their hair to grow.

Everyone is just waiting.

Waiting for the fish to bite

or waiting for wind to fly a kite

or waiting around for Friday night

or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake

or a pot to boil, or a Better Break

or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants

or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.

Everyone is just waiting.

NO!

That's not for you!

Somehow you'll escape

all that waiting and staying.

You'll find the bright places

where Boom Bands are playing.

With banner flip-flapping,

once more you'll ride high!

Ready for anything under the sky.

Ready because you're that kind of a guy!

Oh, the places you'll go! There is fun to be done!

There are points to be scored. there are games to be won.

And the magical things you can do with that ball

will make you the winning-est winner of all.

Fame! You'll be famous as famous can be,

with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.

Except when they don't.

Because, sometimes, they won't.

I'm afraid that some times

you'll play lonely games too.

Games you can't win

'cause you'll play against you.

All Alone!

Whether you like it or not,

Alone will be something

you'll be quite a lot.

And when you're alone, there's a very good chance

you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.

There are some, down the road between hither and yon,

that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.

But on you will go

though the weather be foul

On you will go

though your enemies prowl

On you will go

though the Hakken-Kraks howl

Onward up many

a frightening creek,

though your arms may get sore

and your sneakers may leak.

On and on you will hike

and I know you'll hike far

and face up to your problems

whatever they are.

You'll get mixed up, of course,

as you already know.

You'll get mixed up

with many strange birds as you go.

So be sure when you step.

Step with care and great tact

and remember that Life's

a Great Balancing Act.

Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.

And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

(98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

So...

be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray

or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,

you're off to Great Places!

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting.

So...get on your way!

TIME FLIES… WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO TO CATCH IT?

I can’t believe it’s already March… and almost the end of March at that. I think as you get older time passes more quickly (is that even possible?) Maybe it is just how we experience time. They say time flies when you’re fun. I don’t want time to pass me right by, but I also have to say I would rather be enjoying the fast flying minutes then drowning in slow moving sadness. I realize that I am a lucky girl as I reach out to try and savor every second and make the most of my time on this earth.

As move into the spring, I take inventory on my New Year’s resolutions and I have to say… I think I’ve been doing pretty well. Even though I may not have come as far as I would have liked, I have been working hard. I’ve been learning the tools to start a successful business (more info coming soon), continuing to write new projects while I wait for notes on my rewrite (which is a challenge sometimes) and making my best effort to work out and eat healthy (which is a challenge all the time). I’ve continued to build and cultivate positive and healthy relationships with friends and family… and Joshua of course (1 full year and still counting) I’m proud of the many philanthropic ventures I’ve been lending my time to.

I’ve also been open to taking advantage of exciting and sometimes scary opportunities as they present themselves. I’ve been approached about multiple reality shows (which I think I’m too normal for BTW, but we shall see). I’m going to pose for and be the “muse” for an amazing French designer’s new collection (which is why I need to focus my food intake and workout) and I still am hoping that a hosting opportunity presents itself (because even when my life seems to be pushing me in a different direction, I’m still drawn to being in front of the camera).

As this year continues to fly by, I have made a pledge to myself to work my hardest and put my all into everything I do (which is really hard sometimes when I’m feeling lazy and just want to watch stupid reality TV). I will continue to work towards leaving a positive legacy, by being a good friend, daughter, sister and girlfriend and by doing charity work. I will continue to do the best I can, because I know with hard work and focus I will achieve my dreams. Anything is possible. Even as time flies by, I will do my best to cherish every FABULOUS moment (even when the TV, greasy fast food, lazy, time waster monster tries to draw me in).

A quote for today:

“Live every day to its fullest, because yesterday is gone, and tomorrow may never come.”

“Who I am?”

So cheesy, but fits so fantastically with my last weeks blog :)

A quote for the day....

The Bhagavad Gita – that ancient Yogic Text – say that it is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection.

WHO AM I AND WHO DO I ASPIRE TO BE?

I think when I meet people for the first time they expect Diana Ross’s daughter to be a self-righteous diva or an entitled bitch. People seem surprised that I am just a normal, fun-loving gal working hard and going after my dreams like everyone else. I’m not sure exactly what my mom did, but I know for sure she did something right with me and my siblings. I am very proud of the women I’ve become.

If someone asked me to describe myself, I would probably say I am a writer, a teacher, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a travel enthusiast and creative thinker. To go deeper, I might describe myself as a supportive and fun friend, an affectionate and loving girlfriend, a loving sister and daughter and a patient and kind dog-owner. Climbing deeper into my soul, I would like to think that I am a good person with morals and good work ethic, a person who has the ability to bring joy and make people happy. I am a pleasure seeker who enjoys every moment of everyday, a caring and empathetic person who thinks of other people’s feelings and hopes to raise people up who are feeling down.

The women I am is definitely thanks to my mother who I try to emulate in her beauty, strength and perseverance. She has taught me that anything is possible with hard work and passion. My sisters have help mold me, as well. They are so beautiful, funny, smart and talented. They are shoulders to lean on and always just a phone call away when I need advice. My brothers make me feel young and alive. I'm so proud of their strength and maturity and the amazing men they are growing into. My humor and silliness comes from my dad. I am in awe of his ability to win over any crowd and brighten any room.

I aspire to continue to dream BIG! I want to be remembered for doing great things… FABULOUS things that will be remembered long after I am gone. I want to be a positive influence and leave a legacy of love and laughter. I am inspired to believe that anything is possible and that is a FABULOUS feeling.

I reach out to you my readers to see how you would describe yourself and who do you aspire to be?

I then challenge you to go after it…

Be that person you want to be, because anything is possible!

I WOULD RATHER BE...

“I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark burn out in a brilliant blaze than be stifled by dry-hot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet.”

-Jack London
